Out West
In Auckland terms, a Westie is a resident of the west Auckland suburbs such as Henderson, Massey or Te Atatu, and implies that someone is a tad brash and down-to-earth.
The Out West we’re talking about here is further out west, beyond the suburbs, such as the West Coast Beaches and the Waitakere Ranges that split Auckland from them.
Further north in the area around Kumeu, West Auckland’s main wine-producing area, you’ll find vineyards and wineries started by Croatian immigrant families who first established the country’s wine industry.
You’ll want your own wheels if you’re exploring out here.
