Queen Street
Auckland's main drag
Queen Street is Auckland’s main road, stretching from Queens Wharf on the waterfront, next to the Britomart Transport Centre and Downtown Ferry Terminal, all the way up to Karangahape Rd, 3km south.
Close to straight the whole way, lower Queen St is the city’s buzzing commercial hub, retail precinct and a hotspot for cafes and pubs. It’s known by reputation all over the country and gives its name to the most expensive square in the NZ version of the Monopoly board game.
Notable architecture along the route heading up Queen St includes the 1912 Auckland Ferry Terminal building, the 1929 Auckland Civic Theatre, the 1990 Aotea Centre and the 1911 Auckland Town Hall.
