Winter: Dec, Jan, Feb

Mountain of the Mercantour

Nice is pleasantly mild and quiet in the winter, with the exception of the Nice Carnival (late February and early March) which can be extremely busy.

During these winter months you will need some warm clothing especially in the evenings when it can get quite chilly.

Flower Festivals

Various other resorts along the Riviera have flower festivals in February which make a great day out. Referred to as a 'Bataille des Fleurs' or Battle of flowers they consist of floral processions where young ladies throw flowers to spectators along the route.

At Menton, near the Italian border, they hold a spectacular Lemon Festival at about the same time which is well worth seeing. Other towns holding similar floral events are Vence, Bormes-les-Mimosas, Villefranche-sur-Mer and Antibes.
