David Niven's mansion on Cap Ferrat
St-Jean-Cap-Ferrat, the fabulous peninsula between Nice and Beaulieu-sur-Mer, is the home of the über rich and famous. One such celebrity to live here was the English actor David Niven (1910-1983).
David Niven was well known for his urbane and witty personality which he used to great effect in a series of Hollywood films which included ‘The Guns of Navarone’, ‘The Pink Panther’, ‘Separate Tables’ and ‘Casino Royale’.
Charlie Chaplin
He bought ‘Lo Scoglietto’, as it was then known, from Charlie Chaplin in 1960. Niven lived here on Cap Ferrat for the rest of life, fitting in well with the Riviera social set which included Princess Grace of Monaco.
After Chaplin, Niven is perhaps the most famous of the wealthy and famous inhabitants of this fabulous house and the authorities have named the square outside is known as ‘Place David Niven’.
