Lake Titicaca has some of the most spectacular homestay options in Peru. There are relatively few hotels in the area, which has led to a strong homestay culture. Recently, as internet becomes more available, families have started to market their homestays online. Finding your own lodging is highly recommended because local travel agencies usually take a big percentage of what they charge for lodging.

Key locations

Amantani Island and Taquile Island both have great homestay options. On the mainland, Lachón, near the town of Capachica, also has good homestays. The city of Puno has some hotel and hostals, though fewer homestays. The city of Juliaca is a great transportation hub, both for the airport and for transportation coming from Cusco. However, Juliaca is devoid of charm and not recommended for lodging.
