Buses

Long-distance & tourist services

Buses in Peru

Long distance busses can be quite comfortable in Peru. There are several national companies that have great prices and service. Long distance buses are often scheduled as overnight so you may have to hunt around if you would prefer to travel in the day and sleep in a real bed at night.

Bus stations

There are several bus companies in Peru, which usually leave from the terminal terrestre. This is a bus terminal that functions more like a train station than your average bus stop. Small cities, like Cusco, have one terminal terrestre although some of the major bus companies operate their own separate bus terminal. Taxi drivers know these bus terminals and they’re usually easy to find.

Hop-on, hop-off tourist buses

I don’t normally promote a specific company, but there is a bus company that is quite different from the rest in terms of how it works. PeruHop is a bus system that works more like the Europass train system of old.

The buses go to tourist destinations, rather than normal long distance busses in Peru that go to cities. PeruHop takes you to places that travelers visit, rather than places that locals live. It’s also a convenient system if you’re planning to travel both Peru and Bolivia on the same trip.
