Taxis

Official vs Unofficial

taxi cusco

In most towns and small cities, there is a set price for a taxi within the center. Ask at your lodging what the normal taxi price is. Most Peruvians tell the taxi driver where they want to go and establish the price before they get in the cab.

Official taxis

Official taxis display the name and photo ID of the driver inside, where you can see it when you’re sitting in the back seat. If you find a cab driver that you like, ask for their name and number so you can call them for future rides. Many official cabs have a clear plastic wall between the front and back seats.

Unofficial

There are a lot of informal, unofficial taxi drivers in every city. If you are familiar with your destination, these are usually quite safe. If you are unsure about your destination, or if the driver seems sketchy, wait for a car that’s marked as a taxi.
