Quiocta Caves
Geology and archeology
These caves are truly spectacular for both their geologic formation and the archeological finds. Inside the caves are natural pools, stalactites and stalagmites. There are also human remains and archeological evidence of the Chachapoyas culture. This is a great place to see bats and is also home of a species of fish that can crawl from one water point to another.
You can only enter with a guide, which can be hired in Lámud, or in Chachapoyas. You need both lights and rubber boots, which can both be rented at the cave entrance.
Practicalities
It’s an hour drive north from Chachapoyas to Lámud. A visit to the caves is often included in tours of Karajía.
