Parque Nacional de Cutervo
Anteaters, pampas cats & bears
This is the oldest national park in Peru, established in 1961. It’s a cloud forest, which means you’ll rarely have a sunny day. However, the astounding variety of flora and fauna make up for that deficiency.
Here’s a short video of the Cutervo park and caves, which is in Spanish, but you’ll get to see some of the plants and animals that most people come to find.
Transport
Though it’s in the department of Cajamarca, this national park is more easily accessible through the Amazonas city of Jaén. It’s 3 hours from the airport in Jaén and 8 hours from Cajamarca.
