Machu Picchu Tickets

How to buy: pick dates & times carefully

Mapi tickets website

If you are planning your own trip, rather than paying an agency to do this, you must check both Machu Picchu ticket availability and Machu Picchu train availability for the day and time that you want to visit Machu Picchu. If both are available, you must buy them both at the same time.

Tickets sell out fast during the high season May through August. Below is some advice for buying your own Machu Picchu tickets. Read my advice about buying train tickets here.

Machu Picchu tickets are sold by time slot. If you are going from Cusco and back in one day, you should buy tickets for an hour or two after your scheduled train arrival in Aguas Calientes. It takes about an hour to get from the train station to the bus, wait in line, go up to the ruins on the bus and wait in line again to enter Machu Picchu.
