JW Marriott El Convento
Best 5⋆ for history & culture
The JW Marriott El Convento is in a lovely and very historic 16th century convent. The rooms all have either a view or an Inca wall and some rooms have an oxygen system to enrich the air with oxygen as you sleep.
This hotel has one of the very few swimming pools in Cusco. If you love heated swimming pools and spas, definitely consider the Marriott El Convento. For those who enjoy historical tours, you can visit the pre-Inca ruins preserved under the hotel.
This is my favorite big name hotel in Cusco. I love how well the colonial style was maintained throughout the hotel but especially in the central courtyard, where they serve a fabulous breakfast buffet. I’ve been to the JW Marriott El Convento many times and mostly for the Qespi Restaurant.
My other favorite thing about this hotel is that they hire a local Indigenous woman to bring her baby alpaca to the courtyard so guests can take photos with the alpaca and feed it alfalfa. Bonifacia or her daughter Kely (above) is there most days with their alpaca Panchito.
Oddly, there is still an extra charge for high speed internet in the rooms, even in the imperial suite.
