Old bills are still valid
In 2020 Peru changed the look for all paper money though the old bills are still widely in circulation and still accepted everywhere. All the bills in these photos are valid everywhere in Peru.
Check the watermark on any old bills that you get. The numbers in the corner have to match and the water mark should be clear. The reason new bills were needed was that vast number of fake 50 notes in circulation. Pay special attention to any 50 PEN bills you get that look like the ones below. If it doesn’t look right, insist on a new bill.
