Cusco & Sacred Valley 7-Days
Birding & archeology without Machu Picchu
This itinerary is for people who want to learn about Inca culture & history, but without the crowds and expense of Machu Picchu. It includes two different places for birding, one in the Sacred Valley and one in wetlands south of Cusco.
Take it easy your first day in Cusco, especially if you’re not used to the altitude. First, visit the Qorikancha. Spend the rest of the day in the Plaza de Armas de Cusco and walking around the historic center. Spend the night in Cusco.
This day is for the “city tour” which takes you to four Inca archeological sites in the hills above the city: Sacsayhuamán, Q’enqo, Puka Pukará and Tambomachay. If you have a car or a private guide with a car, you can do these in the morning and in the afternoon go to Maras and Moray. Spend the night in Cusco.
