Oropesa

Bread Town

Entrance to Oropesa

In a region where every town is known for something, Oropesa is known for large, round bread loaves called “chuta.”

The town itself doesn’t have much to see, but the main road that leads from Cusco through the South Valley is lined with bakeries.

They all sell plain chuta and extra sweet chuta that are filled with a kind of soft caramel called “manjar” and similar to dulce de leche.
