Buying dehydrated meals in Peru

Altitude Provisions

Altitude Provisions dehydrated meals

Most mountaineers who come to Peru for treks and mountain climbing either bring dehydrated meals from their home country or hire a cook who brings supplies on a mule and cooks for them at camp.

The only locally made dehydrated meals are made by Altitude Provisions in Cusco. The meals are vegetarian, so if you’re a carnivore you’ll may want to supplement with jerky or other dried meat.

Like most dehydrated meals, they come in a compostable pouch that you add boiling water to and then wait a few minutes for the food to rehydrate.

This is a small, local company, with limited production. If you have a big group, it’s best to order meals as soon as you’ve decided your trip dates. Buy direct at Andean Kingdom in Huaraz, at Mandalika in Cusco or order them to be sent anywhere in Peru.

Note: Like everything else in this app, this is not an ad. Nobody paid me to write this. I’m sharing this information because dehydrated food is so hard to find in Peru.
