St-Rémy: Collégiale St-Martin
St-Rémy's Neo-Classical churrch
As you walk around St-Rémy you can’t miss the amazing Collégiale St Martin on Boulevard Marceau. It looks as though it has been transported stone by stone from nearby Roman/Greek ruins of Glanum!
Palladian juxtaposed with Gothic
The splendid Neo-Classical Palladian façade, consisting of Ionic columns and a triangular pediment, built in 1821 form the entrance to the Collégiale to replace the old structure which had collapsed. Only the bell tower of the 14th Century Chapelle Jean de Renaud remains. Moreover, built in Flamboyant Gothic style it boasts an unusual crocketed spire adorned with carved stone foliage.
However, inside the church don’t miss the magnificent organ, restored in 1983 by Pascal Quoirin. Used every year from the end of July – September for the Festival Organa featuring some of the world’s best organists.
