Avignon: Hôtel Cloitre St-Louis
Hotel in the Cloisters of St Louis at Avignon (b,l,d; €€)
Originally this elegant hotel in the centre of Avignon was a Jesuit Seminary! Constructed during the 16th Century it was restored by the eminent architects Etienne Martelange, Jean Péru and François de Royers de la Valfenière who used glass, steel and stone to create a unique effect.
The 80 rooms of this four star hotel are fashionably minimalist and the superior ones look out over a charming inner garden while the traditional rooms look out over the cloistered courtyard.
You couldn't get much closer to the attractions of this enchanting city and while it's certainly not cheap it definitely has style!
