Tipping

Where done, 10% is standard

New Pound Coins and Old Pound Coins (Creative Commons)

Tipping’s not a big deal in Scotland, though in most cases when you've received a personal service (mostly taxis) it's courteous to round up the bill. In restaurants adding 10% to the bill is pretty standard.

There's no need to tip in bars – I've even seen a Scottish barman calling American visitors back to the bar as they'd "forgotten their change".
