Buses, Trams & Subways

Cheaper than trains, vital in cities

Bruce Coaches FJ58 AKK - National Express

Buses largely Scotland's Trains - they provide a slightly alternative to travelling the country, but mostly they provide the backbone of systems around Scottish cities.

National buses

Scottish Citylink is the largest bus (aka coach) provider, serving over 200 towns and cities. Tickets to their services are often most cheaply bought via Megabus.

Citylink also offers good-value multiday explorer passes for 3/5/8 days. Once you have a pass you can use it to reserve seats online – lay down your plans early to ensure you get a seat.

Two popular tour companies that drive minibuses between hostels/hotels are Rabbie’s Trail Burners and MacBackpackers.
