The Bone Caves
Where the extinct once sheltered (3miles/2hrs)
Excavations of the Bone Caves started in 1889 and pretty soon they found... guess what? Yes, bones, but bones of a most intriguing variety, since many came from to species such as lynx, polar bears, wolves and lemmings, all now extinct in Britain.
These remains have since been moved, but what’s left is pleasant hike (approx 2hrs round-trip) to a shallow cave in a scenic spot; a few engaging info boards; and good chance of seeing some deer.
