Troon Golf Courses
Six famous courses with something for everyone – even beginners
Troon’s Old Course (7097 yards, Par 72), is considered a classic. It’s a very traditional club that dates back to 1879 and has become a regular fixture for the Open Championship.
The course layout means that the sequence of holes swings around and invariably comes back into the wind, which is always a big factor. This makes it very hard to craft a good score later on – so try for an early lead to hold.
The other great courses in the area particularly include Portland (same contact details as Old Course) and Darley. Also very respectable are Fullarton & Lochgreen and Kilmarnock (info and booking for all these here)
Craigend Road, Troon
Old Troon peak season green fee around £350; other courses £15–120
