Cawdor Castle

Atmospheric home of fictional Macbeth

Cawdor Castle

Cawdor Castle dates from the 15th-century and was probably not the home of the real Macbeth in the 11th century as Shakespeare would have us believe in his play.

Cawdor Castle - Scotland

None the less with its original 1454 keep, drawbridge, weapons enough for a small army, and a general atmosphere of creepiness, it's a great Shakespearean place all the same.

There's also an attractive garden to explore. Parts of it are 300 years old and include a particularly ancient yew tree, and there's a maze too.
