Fort George
Military statement by the British Crown
This large fort complex was built in the late 18th-century in aftermath of the battle of Culloden as a show of force and decisive control by the British Crown.
The simple and foreboding lines of this symmetrical structure extend into the Moray Firth.
It continues to serve as an army barracks but there's also a vintage armoury and a museum to the Highlanders regiment inside.
