Central Thailand
The area around Bangkok consists of the Central Plains, often referred to as the country’s rice bowl due to its endless rice paddies, the ancient cities of Ayutthaya and Lopburi, which were once capitals of Siam, beautiful national parks and the Death Railway, River Kwai near Kanchanaburi and the seaside towns of Hua Hin and Prachuap Khiri Khan.
All of these places can be visited on a day trip from Bangkok, but to appreciate them fully it’s worth staying overnight, and there’s plenty of accommodation in each town. Whether you’re into history, nature or lounging on a beach, Central Thailand can satisfy your cravings.
