Mr Chippy
Not just chips with everything (l,d; £)
Classic chip shop down a back street in the centre of York, which has become so successful that it has expanded since opening, and boasts quite a large dining area.
Near to Drake's Fish and Chips but larger and perhaps quieter because of its back street location. Like Drake's it has its own band of fervent supporters, perhaps on account of its dessert offerings.
The usual filling takeaway or eat-in chippy fare. (The traditional full sit-down meal usually consists of fish, chips, mushy peas with bread and butter and tea.)
The establishment does also branch out into non-chip gastronomy. Nothing more dangerously exotic than salads and jacket potatoes, however.
Fair enough that the menu boasts a secret batter recipe, but "real" chips? As opposed to?
Set meal around £9. Children's portions available, and £1 meal discounts for the over-60s given Monday to Friday.
