Neill-Cochran House Museum
Not-so-secluded stately home
It’s taken over a century for Austin growth to catch up with the Neill-Cochran House.
The home was built in 1855 on over 17 acres in what was then considered “the suburbs” and today, the stately home is surrounded by the bustle of Austin and the nearby University of Texas.
If the Greek Revival style seems reminiscent of the Texas Governor’s Mansion, it is – they share the same architect, Abner Cook.
The building has been a school for the blind, a hospital, and is now one of the most historic residences in Austin.
Docent-led tours of this antique-filled home offer a glimpse back in time.
