University of Texas & Around
To the north of the Texas State Capitol, the sprawling 350-acre University of Texas campus is bounded by Guadalupe Street (also known as “The Drag”) to the west, I-35 to the east, and Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard to the south.
The campus
Founded in 1883 with only eight teachers and 220 students, the University of Texas at Austin (UT) has grown into one of the largest and well-respected universities in the country.
The 350-acre campus is located just north of the Capitol, roughly bound by Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard to the south, I-35 to the east, and Guadalupe Street (“The Drag”) to the west.
