Sydney Harbour Bridge
The famous coat hanger
Sydneysiders love their giant ‘Coat Hanger’, its 53,000 tonnes of steel connecting central Sydney to its northern suburbs. Debuting in 1932, the Art-Deco behemoth carries more than 150,000 vehicles daily.
The most memorable way to cross the bridge is on foot, accessible by stairs and lifts on both sides of the harbour. For the best effect, catch a commuter train to Milsons Point station (North Shore line) and walk back over the bridge for city and harbour views you won’t forget.
For a serious adrenalin rush, climb the bridge’s arc on a BridgeClimb tour; choose from full climbs (lasting 2¼ to 3½ hours) or ‘sampler’ 90-minute tours that go up halfway.
Transport: Train to Circular Quay or Milsons Point
