Yarra Valley
World-famous pinot & chardonnay
On Wurundjeri country, the glorious Yarra Valley is renowned for its elegant cool-climate vino and artisan food producers. It’s a popular day trip for Melburnians and visitors alike, who hit celebrated wineries like historic Yering Station, De Bortoli and TarraWarra Estate. All three have notable restaurants. TarraWarra is also home to the architecturally striking TarraWarra Museum of Art, whose notable collection includes works by prolific modern Australian artists.
Consider making time for some of the Yarra Valley’s excellent, lesser-known wineries, among them Pimpernel Vineyards and Maddens Rise. If you’re a gin lover, don’t miss creative boutique distillery Four Pillars Gin, its prized spirit voted ‘World’s Best’ repeatedly.
The Valley’s two main towns are Yarra Glen and Healesville, the latter offering the widest choice of eateries, cafes and shopping.
The Yarra Valley lies around 50km northeast of Melbourne.
Car: From Melbourne, head east on the Maroondah Hwy (SR34/B360). Most of the region’s wineries are located within the triangle formed by the towns of Coldstream, Yarra Glen and Healesville.
