Cape Tribulation
Fabled rainforest beach
Tropical rainforest tumbles right onto the sand at ‘Cape Trib’, the Daintree’s most celebrated stretch of coastline. The remote, pristine headland sits at the end of Cape Tribulation Road, accessed by crossing the Daintree River by car ferry.
The beach itself is known to harbour the odd saltwater crocodile, so stick to beach strolls and wandering the forest boardwalk. Memorable activities include beach and forest horse rides and snorkelling tours of the Great Barrier Reef. The latter are especially magical when you find yourself in the company of sea turtles.
Cape Tribulation lies in Far North Queensland, 67km north of Mossman Gorge, 84km north of Port Douglas and 140km north of Cairns.
Bus: The Trans North Cairns-Cooktown (Coastal) morning bus service stops at Cape Tribulation, picking up passengers in Port Douglas en route. An afternoon service returns to Cairns.
Car: From Cairns and Port Douglas, the sealed Captain Cook Hwy (SR44) leads towards Cape Tribulation via Mossman Gorge. The trip requires a short car ferry ride across the Daintree River.
