Mossman Gorge
Precious rainforest & Aboriginal culture
Land of the Kuku Yalanji people, Mossman Gorge is the gateway to the World Heritage-listed Daintree Rainforest, an ancient tropical wilderness harbouring the world’s most biologically diverse flora and fauna.
From the visitor centre, shuttle buses reach the gorge entrance, from where you can stroll along an elevated forest boardwalk, hike the longer, 2.4km Rainforest Circuit and cool off in pristine rock pools.
To really appreciate the place, book a 90-minute Kuku-Yalanji Dreamtime Gorge Walk (online or at the Mossman Gorge Centre), which explores the area’s rich Aboriginal culture and includes a traditional smoking ceremony. Tours depart four times daily; see mossmangorge.rezdy.com for times and prices.
Mossman Gorge lies in Far North Queensland, 22km northwest of Port Douglas and 77km northwest of Cairns.
Car: The sealed Captain Cook Hwy (SR44) connects both Cairns and Port Douglas to the gorge.
Opening hours: Daily 8am-6pm
Admission: Gorge entrance shuttle bus adult/child $12.65/6.40
