Fremantle

Perth's historic, atmospheric port

Salty, free spirited ‘Freo’ is one of Perth’s greatest asset. The port’s tightly-packed streets burst with enough heritage architecture, cafes, bars, restaurants, bookstores, galleries and boutiques to keep you roaming for days.

Take a tour of the convict-era Fremantle Prison and make time for the exceptional WA Shipwrecks Museum. From Friday to Sunday, crowds trawl the stalls of the long-standing Fremantle Markets (this entry’s map location).

Fremantle lies in metropolitan Perth, 18km southwest of the city centre.

Transperth trains run between Perth and Fremantle. Alternatively, more scenic and expensive Captain Cook Cruises and Rottnest Express ferries sail between the two.
