Karijini National Park
Sculptured gorges, blissful rock pools
Traditional home of the Banyjima, Kurrama and Innawonga people, Karijini National Park covers 6275 sq km in the Pilbarra region, making it one of Australia’s largest national parks. It’s also one of its most awe inspiring, speckled with breathtaking ancient gorges, hulking mountains, waterfalls and bracing natural pools. Abundant wildlife includes red kangaroos, rock wallabies, echidnas and endangered olive pythons.
The more accessible northern section harbours spectacular Dales Gorge, home to Karijini’s only year-round waterfall, Fortescue Falls. There’s a beautiful, cooling swimming hole at the Falls, a one-hour return walk from the Fortescue Falls car park.
Park accommodation is limited to Dales Gorge Campground and the more upscale Karinji Eco Retreat.
