The Whitsundays
Paradisiacal archipelago
Seventy-four islands make up the Whitsundays archipelago, its turquoise waters protected by the Great Barrier Reef. While Daydream, Hamilton, Hayman and Long islands offer resorts, most of the islands remain thickly wooded and uninhabited. Whitsunday Island is home to 7km-long Whitehaven Beach, regularly voted one of the world’s most beautiful. You can camp on a number of the islands, including Whitsunday Island; book online.
A plethora of tour operators depart from the mainland town of Airlie Beach, offering everything from snorkelling and kayaking adventures, to skydiving, seaplane tours, fishing and yacht charters. Ocean Rafting offers fantastic, active day trips to the highlights, including Whitehaven.
