Fernie Museum & Visitor Centre
Downtown tourist info & town museum
Fernie’s downtown visitor centre is much smaller than the main Fernie Visitor Info Centre on Hwy-3 north of town, but just as helpful.
They have details of a self-guided heritage walking tour of downtown, whose best buildings cluster around the museum and date back to 1908, when the town rebuilt itself after a pretty comprehensively destructive fire (the second in four years).
The main floor of the museum building itself contains exhibits on the evolution of the town, its coal mining and its winter sports.
The room above provides a space for temporary displays of local and regional art.
