Swine Flu/Mad Cow

A top Fernie ride: 1.5hr/Moderate/5.5km

Swine Flu was built in 2009/2010 and became an instant classic. It’s sharp, steep and twisting, but doable climb leads to a viewpoint from where it’s downhill all the way on lovely flowing banked trails.

It’s rated black but is pretty easy for the grade, if you’ve got the fitness…

Directions

There are options, but the classic version is a figure-of-eight shape and begins with a ride along the highway towards town as far as a gated dirt road to the right. Take this, then bear right as the forest opens into a field, go through gate and follow fence to right. Bear left at a junction to follow a trail that crosses and re-crosses a dirt track on its way up to the powerline.

Once there turn left along the powerline track and look for singletrack on the right after a few hundred yards. Keep climbing, the top is obvious! On the way back down bear left whenever there is an option and you’ll end up back at the visitor centre.
