Nakiska
Family ski resort for Calgary day-skiers
Developed specifically for the 1988 Winter Olympics, Nakiska lies beside Kananaskis Village and around an hour’s drive from either Calgary or Banff.
Designed from scratch, it’s a supremely user-friendly resort and since it was intended for downhill racers to fly down, the runs here are mostly smooth and steep, making it a great mountain for intermediate-level cruising or beginner snowboarders.
Lack of snow is rarely a problem, since snowmaking covers 85 percent of the mountain, and though conditions can be crusty, its good grooming helps. Also well-maintained, are two competition-standard half-pipes and a terrain park.
