Post Hotel
Upscale riverside log chalets ($$$); great food (b,l,d; $$+)
A short walk from the Lake Louise Village mall, the venerable Post Hotel has a wide variety of room types – hotel rooms to one-bedroom condos, lofts and chalets – all have a contemporary rustic feel, and many have a whirlpool and fireplace. Rates vary according to the view. Amenities include an indoor pool, steam room, library and a complimentary ski shuttle.
Restaurant
Also here is a restaurant (daily 7am–2pm & 5–10pm) noted for international gourmet dishes, served under cosy, low ceilings and beside a crackling wood fire. The range of rich meat and fish entrees is served with phenomenal sauces. For an appetizer try the scampi on asparagus with an orange and lemon sauce. The rack of lamb with grilled Portobello mushrooms and rosemary sauce is also superb as is the massive duck sausage with gnocchi and mango-lime salsa. The day’s gourmet menu is $105, while the list of accompanying wines has a strong French bias. Dinner reservations are advised.
Outpost Pub
In the basement of the restaurant, the Outpost Pub is not only a snug local’s hangout but serves excellent pub food, using the same kitchen, but at far lower prices (daily from late afternoon).
