Accommodation
The Canadian Rockies have a great range of accommodation, with the market split three ways:
• Budget offerings include hostels in key towns and at more remote locations as well as homestays (Airbnb and the like) and campgrounds. The latter range between giant holiday-park style places in and outside parks through smaller roadside options to tiny backcountry places.
• Mid-range options are dominated by bed and breakfasts and modern chain hotels.
• Top-end choices generally divide between vast noble offerings like Banff Springs Hotel; quasi-rustic equivalents like Baker Creek Chalets; and a clutch of small high-end boutique options.
Booking
Wherever you choose, booking well in advance will be key to getting exactly what you want at peak times: reservations six months in advance are not uncommon for July and August.
Prices
Keeping accommodation prices accurate and up-to-date is notoriously hard, but we provide a ballpark figure in the form of the cheapest room for two people in high-season in the info sections of each relevant entry. Rates don't include sales tax which will typically add another 10–15%.
