Theatre & Cinemas
Theatre, dance & art
Theatre and dance are thinly supported in Barbados. There’s little beyond the odd sketch in the National Festival of the Performing Arts (NIFCA), and the occasional production at the Frank Collymore Hall in Bridgetown – the island’s main stage – or at the Walcott Warner Theatre at Cavehill, University of the West Indies. That said, in 2022 the fully renovated 18th-century building that houses Queen’s Park Theatre & Art Gallery (pictured below) reopened in the eponymous park in Bridgetown.
Cinema
By far the most enjoyable movie experience in Barbados is at the The Globe Drive-In (this entry’s map location, pictured at the top) provided you have your own vehicle, as you tune in through the car radio. Set out the deck-chairs and order some food and enjoy the big screen under the stars – but you’ll need to take your own booze.
The island’s other two cinemas are: the Olympus Cinema (with six screens), located in the Sheraton Centre, just east of Bridgetown, and the Limegrove Cinemas in Holetown, which have two plush auditoriums, with waiter service. It’s almost a non-stop diet of Hollywood at any of the locations, with the occasional sponsored film festival making its way onto the screen.
