Taxis
From transfers to island tours
Official taxis wait for passengers at the airport, the cruise ship terminal and in central Bridgetown, and often outside supermarkets, where they are often minivans (see photo). They are recognisable by the ‘Z’ number plate and taxi sign on top. Otherwise, your accommodation can arrange for a pick-up, and/or put you in touch with a taxi company.
Fares
There are set fares for each route, which generally depends on the distance. Since there are no taxi meters, make sure you find out the price in advance. These airport taxi fares give you an idea of rates, though you’ll pay more if there are more than two people in the taxi, or if you have extra luggage, or it’s late at night.
Tours
Taxis are also often used to do island tours. Although more expensive than regular tours, it does mean you can choose the itinerary, and most taxi drivers are a mine of information.
Tip: Make sure whether the rate quoted is in Barbados or US Dollars.
