St Lawrence Gap
Large letters spelling out St Lawrence Gap – affectionately known as The Gap – mark the entrance to Barbados’ main tourist enclave and concentration of nightlife.
A mile-long semi-pedestrianised loop, the Gap is home to a host of bars, restaurants, cafés, nightclubs, shops and souvenir stalls and some of the island’s more affordable accommodation. Pleasantly quiet and relaxed during the day, the place comes alive at night, especially at weekends, when young Bajans also come here to party.
Midway along the strip stretches Dover Beach, a popular swathe of powder-soft sand with opportunities for a variety of water sports.
Note: The Gap is well patrolled, so safe to stroll around at night.
Transport:
The infrequent #12D transport board bus from Fairchild St Bus Terminal (Bridgetown) bound for the Crane passes the various entrances to the Gap (10–15min) (from where it’s a short walk). The regular ZR #11 bound for Silver Sands leaves its own stop close by the Constitutional River Bus Terminal (Bridgetown).
