South Coast
The South Coast is home to the country’s mass tourism market, evident from the moment you head eastwards out of Bridgetown, and enter the Parish of Christ Church.
Traffic is slow along the built-up coastal road, moving through Hastings, Rockley and Worthing, chock-full of hotels, bars, restaurants and small shopping centres, culminating in St Lawrence Gap, a semi-pedestrianised enclave, which is also the centre of the island’s nightlife scene.
Heading further eastwards, tourist developments then taper off slightly, in favour of residential areas as you approach the fishing town of Oistins – the main population centre along the coast, known for its Friday-night fish fry and Easter Festival.
