Arlington House Museum
Engaging local history in a 1750 home
Undoubtedly, the town’s most interesting attraction is Arlington House Museum. Built in the eighteenth century, it was a former merchant’s house.
It was restored by the Barbados National Trust and converted into a modern interactive and informative museum, with hand-on exhibits for children. The museum offers fascinating insights into the port’s wealthy past, and engages with the role of slavery to some extent.
Exhibits include historical photographs, audiofiles of older residents talking about the ‘old days’, video presentations on Barbadian history and even a hurricane simulator.
There’s also a bar-grill open in the evenings.
