Transport

The Cook Islands are served by Air New Zealand and Jetstar who generally operate international flights from Auckland, New Zealand (4hrs) and Sydney, Australia (6hrs) to Rarotonga. Air Tahiti flies between Tahiti and Rarotonga.

Don’t forget that Rarotonga is on the other side of the International Date Line from Auckland and Sydney. You will gain a day going, and lose a day on the way back.

Rarotonga International Airport is in the northwest of the island, a few kilometres west of downtown Avarua.

Once in the Cooks, there are all sorts of fun ways to get around. Rarotonga offers far more options than Aitutaki, which in turn, offers more options than the outer islands.
