Rarotonga
Rarotonga is far and away the most visited of the Cook Islands, home to around 13,000 people and the capital of Avarua, it also has the country’s sole international airport.
This has long been a ‘tropical holiday island’ for Kiwis and Aussies, especially during southern hemisphere winters.
The largest of the Cook Islands at 67km², Rarotonga is 32km in circumference. The surrounding lagoon is calm and accessible, while the interior of the island is surprisingly mountainous, with a high point of 653m.
There’s a lot going on here as the Cook Islands’ economy runs on tourism. An abundance of places to explore, stay, eat, drink and play.
