Around Split
Split is an excellent base for further excursions, with the remains of ancient Roman Salona and the medieval stronghold of Klis lying just north of the city. Trogir, to the west, is a beautifully preserved Renaissance jewel; while Omiš, to the southeast, offers beach life and boat trips up the Cetina river. Totally different in feel, Sinj is a highland town in the Dalmatian interior, renowned for the ancient sporting contest known as the Alka.
All destinations can be reached by bus from Split.
