Split Ethnographic Museum
Folklore & fashion
Located in a medieval house built on the site of Diocletian’s imperial bedroom, Split’s Ethnographic Museum (Etnografski muzej) offers a stunning collection of costume, furniture and jewellery from all over Dalmatia set out on several floors.
As well as folk costumes sourced from Split and surrounding areas, there are examples of nineteenth-century urban dress illustrating how styles changed through the centuries and sensibilities towards fashion were part and parcel of city life. With rooms full of stunning textiles and embroidery, it’s a great place for visual inspiration.
