Split City Museum

Split through the ages

Hidden behind a walled courtyard in the heart of the palace precinct, the medieval Papalić Palace now houses the Split City Museum, with a broad-based collection of Roman and medieval finds. It’s a great place to find out a bit more about Diocletian and his times, with sculpture fragments and more of his black-granite sphinxes.

There are also extensive collections of Gothic and Renaissance art and furniture, and mementos related to Renaissance brainbox Marko Marulić (1450-1524), author of the epic Judita, the first book to be printed in the Croatian language.
