In summer the weather should, but might not, be warmer and accommodation prices are at their height.
School summer holidays – from mid-July to early-September – can bring packed beaches and traffic jams.
But if you’re prepared to explore further than the obvious honey pots and see key sights at the beginning or end of the day, you should still be able to escape the worst of the crowds.
